Color. Color? Color!

Curious? Frustrated? Learn the basics of Color Theory: Hues, Tints, Shades, Tones, Contrasts and Harmonies. In this workshop we will do yarn windings and other exercises to decipher color. As a group we will look at examples of your work that you think are successful and examples that do not work as well…. We’ll figure out why. Make your work come alive. No experience necessary and can be a good review. Weavers, Knitters, Crocheters, Spinners, Sewers; are all welcome. [This could be a half or full day workshop.]

Basics of Design-A Studio Course

In this studio course we will apply design theory through projects that will help you explore the process of design and design development related to concepts, materials and two-dimensional form. We’ll work with basic design elements such as balance, line and shape, abstraction, texture and value, perspective, pattern, and color. You’ll learn how to generate a design, how to apply design thinking and theory, and how to present and evaluate design. No experience necessary or can be a good review. Course can be broken down into small units covering one design element or be all-inclusive. [One day to two-week workshops.]

Design Basics and Group Critique

Here is your chance to evaluate your own work in terms of basic design elements such as balance, line and shape, abstraction, texture and value, perspective, pattern, and color. You’ll learn how to generate a design, how to apply design thinking and theory, and how to present and evaluate design. After a morning lecture and discussion, we will spend the afternoon looking at your work and discovering how you can make past and future work better! I promise it won’t be painful! No experience necessary or can be a good review. [One day workshop.]

Fibers and Fabric Structures

This comprehensive workshop is an introduction to the properties of fibers and fabrics. Learn where natural, man-made and synthetic fibers come from, how yarns are made, the differences between non-woven, knit, crocheted and woven structures, and basic dye and printing techniques and after treatments. You will learn through lectures, hands-on-projects and by touching, feeling and analyzing fabric. Sewers, quilters, spinners, dyers, weavers, knitters, and all fiber enthusiasts can improve their work and make the process more enjoyable if they understand their materials. Course can be expanded to include a studio project. Any level. No experience necessary or can be a good review for hobbyists and professionals. [Three day to two week workshop.]

Facility Needs:

All design workshops need a room with good lighting, preferably natural light. Projector and screen for Power Point. Group and individual table space and chairs.
